Interior and Spatial Design 2

The Future of Interior and Spatial Design

Coming home to beautiful and serene surroundings or working in a tastefully done office can have a remarkable impact on our mind and senses. Interior and spatial designing play an important part in making our homes and offices beautiful. Natural lighting, open spaces, artistic décor, and visual appeal are some of the ways in which interior designing transforms an ordinary house into a home. But the design trends are changing rapidly and as a result, the future of interior and spatial design looks exciting.

Let us look at some of the major themes which will change the way we approach interior designing in the future.

Go Minimalistic

The emerging trend in interiors is to ‘go minimalistic’. People no longer like filling their houses with bulky furniture and rather prefer to have minimalistic and light furniture. Open spaces give a sense of freedom and relaxed living. Big leather sofas are giving way to cane furniture, heavy dining tables are being replaced with Japanese style low lying table, and bulky almirahs are itched in favor of modular wardrobes.

Functionality Comes First

The design trends are highly inclined towards furniture and interiors which are functional and match our fast-paced lives. Foldable tables and recliners which can be doubled up as beds, paintings which can transform into ironing boards, and modular kitchen are some ways in which designers merge the best of both beauty and functionality.

Smart Homes

With the rapid advancement in technology, our houses are fast changing into smart homes. Homes where the lights can be controlled through a panel, or are activated when they sense motion. The smart home technology gives you the freedom of managing your house even if you are miles apart by switching the a/c on, closing the fridge,  etc. Interior designing in the future would need to take this into consideration before decorating a house or office.

 Go Natural

The much-needed wave of ‘go natural’ is currently in full swing where everything from curtains to bedsheets to clothes is going natural. Heavy synthetic curtains are switched with cotton or linen fabrics, wallpaper is being replaced with quirky wall paint designs, etc. Indoor plants dot the house and colours like brown and black are giving way to aqua green and lemon yellow.

The trends in interior designing will keep evolving as people’s interests and like change but the art of interior and spatial designing will always remain important. So, if you are an aspiring interior designer, get yourself enrolled in JD Institute’s Interior and Spatial Design Course.
