THE ART OF CONTEMPORARY DESIGN IN INTERIORS

Contemporary Design Style is uncluttered and clean, it represents the present. It is all about now and is evolving as we speak. So the concept is evolved as per current trends. Each element is important and needs its own space to be visible, making the design give an open-space feel. (https://www.banucciteam.com)

Contemporary design does not include any kind of carving or ornate embellishments. It is not stark and cold. Instead, it is spacious and comfortable with smooth polished surfaces as well as a few intricate details. Aesthetics are minimalist. It is important to keep balancing colours, textures and materials to bring harmony to space.

The modern and Contemporary design is often mistaken as the same thing when in reality, they are not. Modern style follows a strict pattern while contemporary design blends in different styles and variations.

THE ORIGIN

The term “contemporary” in art and design became popular in the 1970s. It initially began as a combination of various styles, and soon developed its own distinctiveness. Some elements are from Modernism, Art Deco, Deconstructivism, Futurism and such other styles.

THE DESIGN

The contemporary interior design is known for sleek surfaces, crisp furnishings and cutting-edge art. It is more of showcasing clean spaces and uncluttered clarity. This type of design often sticks to a stricter palate of black, white and grey.

Earlier, colours such as orange, turquoise, cream, brown and beige were used. As time evolved, other colours that are more vibrant and bright added up to the palette as well.

If for any reason a colour is to be added, It is often a pure, saturated hue like a true red, an indigo or an orange.

Neutral colours like creams, whites, browns, blacks are in the foreground. Bold colours such as red and yellow are used as accents. Elements made from chrome, wood, glass and metal work well in the design. No heavy embellishments are used here. The interiors feature straighter, more austere lines. Clean, architectural lines are the signature style of contemporary design. Additionally, texture can be added by scattering cushion placements in spaces where the walls are smooth and flat.
