Jewellery making is a viable business idea for hands-on creatives, but crafting skills are not the only important thing for a designer. Apart from it, one must also know the current trends of the market and most importantly the logistics behind it. JD Institute of Fashion Technology gives a platform to the jewellery design course students to go deep into the roots and have an idea of the know how’s of the industry. The students had an interactive session with the renowned people from t­­­­he industry, Mr Rajendran S, Head of Marketing sales and Mr Amit Pandya, Jewellery Stylist from C Krishniah Chetty and Sons, Bangalore.

CKC, a jewellery company with more than 150 years of industry experience, formed in 1869 at Karnataka. The Company is famed for being the preferred jewellers to over 21 royal kingdoms including the Maharaja of Mysore, Nizam of Hyderabad and many royal families of south and Central India. The company has been an innovator in the jewellery industry with a store of having largely purely diamonds in all of Asia. Their vision is to satisfy the highest expectations of every client, in a relationship that can span generations.
However, the talk session was led by Mr Rajendran who inspired Jediiians to be a new age thinker and be ready to change the world. The area of discussion was mainly about government regulations, the economy and gold market. Apart from industry technicalities, they were also given an insight into the changing landscape of the jewellery market locally as well as Internationally. As the students are going to set themselves out in the market. This discussion was of prime importance as they were also given a brief on other brands and the scale of online businesses about jewellery retail in India.

In this fast-paced and consumer-driven world, it is important to understand the needs of the consumers along with tactics of communication and marketing the designs well. A key to success is to stand out in the market and identify one’s purpose of design since manufacturing, marketing and design goes hand in hand.
The talk ended with some references given by Mr Amit Pandya whose passion lead him to be the known Jewellery Stylist in the industry. He guided the students in terms of balance and proportion that one should achieve while styling a jewel piece along with other elements. Giving such educational tips helps our students to think differently and be different.
