Fashion Design Department – Industrial visit to an Embroidery Visit – JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Mumbai
Students of JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Mumbai spent an entire day understanding the various embroidery techniques such as Hand work, Khakha making and machine embroidery. It gave the students to the insight of the hand work and embroidery process which includes designing the motif and sketch it on the tracing paper which is served as the blue print of the embroidery and is also known as khakha in India. The tracing paper is then punched and the print is transferred on the fabric. The skilled artisans than seated on the floor do the hand work embroidery on the fabric which is stretched across two poles.
Students also got to know how the machine embroidery and computerized machine embroidery works. It was learning and inspiring day for the students as they saw the fashion from behind the scene and spoke to the artisans about the process and their skills.
