Delhi JEDIIIANS at the Weaving Identity Exhibition
Fashion Design Course
and Product Development students of JD Institute of Fashion Technology
, Delhi visited an exhibition – “Weaving Identity”, showcasing the rich textile traditions of Caribbean Islands & Latin America.
Behind the colours and patterns of Latin American & Caribbean textiles, lies the history of a whole region. The textiles featured in the exhibition gave a peek into a kaleidoscope of colours and traditions. They captured the rich heritage shaped by multiple influences: pre-Columbian, Colonial, and Modern, Indigenous, European, African and Asian, including Indian techniques and materials. The textiles shown in the exhibition seemed to be the result, not only of local knowledge and inherited practices of many generations but also of the creativity and artistry of men and women of Latin America and the Caribbean. Decorative, utilitarian, ceremonial, their uses, techniques are as vast as their beauty. The aim of the exhibition visit was to get a glimpse at the colourful and diverse art of weaving the Latin American
and the Caribbean identity.
