BAGS FOR A CAUSE- FUNDRAISER ACTIVITY FOR NGO JAMGHAT
JD Institute of Fashion Technology, Delhi organized a fundraiser activity for NGO Jamghat, on 4th April 2019.
Jamghat is a registered NGO that seeks to rehabilitate street children and to raise awareness within society by using the medium of street theatre as well as interactive workshops, night-walks and other social means of communication. Jamghat aims not only to provide the homeless a home but also to equip them with the tools needed to be able, independent and responsible members of the society they inhabit. They run two shelter homes where the street children are given food, shelter, good education and caring, loving home. We have been associated with Jamghat since January 2018 when the students painted the walls of one of the shelter homes of Jamghat to make the living environment lively and welcoming.
NGO Jamghat has been facing a financial crisis that may lead to permanent closure of its shelter homes. Children residing in these homes are facing the challenging prospect of being sent back to the streets. When the issue was brought to the notice of our Executive Director, Ms Rupal Dalal, immediate steps were taken to raise funds.
Joining hands with Ekjut (an eco-friendly vocational training & income generating program initiated by Jamghat) that produced wallets, purses, folders, laptop case, toiletry bags, grocery bags, laundry bag, newspaper bag, shoe bag, hair dryer bag, messenger bags & any more were sold at the institution. The main aim was to promote Ekjut products and raise funds by selling them.
Different types of beautiful, handmade bags were displayed. Students participated whole-heartedly in the fund-raiser event and bought many bags. They also donated cash for the cause. The event was a grand success and generated additional income for NGO Jamghat to help them tide over the immediate crisis.
JD Institute feels privileged that the students have empathy towards social causes. JD Institute aims to instill within each student that to be a successful designer, it is important to be a good human being first.
