Artitectural Chic – Future Origin – JD Annual Design Awards 2017

Award Category : Best Ideation
Collection Name : Artitectural Chic
Students Names : Bina Sridhar and Saranya Shalini

With a vision to create garments that can be reused multiple times before they end up in landfills, the designers of the collection Artitectural Chic have used a dyeing pigment that changes colour of the garment. Psychologically, if a garment changes colour, the user might consider reusing the garment for a prolonged period. Using algae as a pigment to dye the garments made of 100% organic cotton, the collection amalgamates the inspiration of aerial photography of David Maisel and the microbial symmetry of the algae. The collection also aims to encourage the traditional art of making Pattamadai mats by bringing those prints on to the garments using the algae dyes. The arty and chic look of the collection is brought through architectural over-sized silhouettes using colours mustard yellow and steel grey from the aerial photography, green from algae dyes and red and blue colours of the embroidery. The collection is presented by Bina Sridhar and Saranya Shalini from March Diploma Batch.
